UNEARTHING WORLD PILLARS, BRIDGING WORLD BOUNDARIES:

ADVANCING TRADITIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC WORLDVIEWS

ABOUT US

The Center for Traditional and Scientific Metaphysics (TSM Center, 傳統與科學形上學研究中心) at National Taiwan University (國立臺灣大學) is dedicated to cultivating interdisciplinary metaphysical research, bridging the gap between various traditions. By bringing together various research approaches, including from analytic philosophy, continental philosophy, Buddhist philosophy, Eastern philosophy, philosophy of science, natural science, social science, and religious thoughts, the center endeavors to examine fundamental philosophical inquiries regarding the mind, consciousness, intelligence, matter, space-time, causality, and the cosmos from fresh and innovative perspectives.

The TSM Center actively engages and collaborates with philosophers, scientists, and humanities scholars from various backgrounds. It aspires to contribute to the collective expertise and unique perspectives of Taiwan's academic community, and to engage meaningfully with the cutting-edge development of the global academic landscape.

Furthermore, the center receives substantial support from a total of 20 affiliate members from universities across Taiwan, as well as from various international collaborative partners in Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia. It focuses on four major projects, for which it has organized itself into four respective specialized research teams: (i) the Metaphysics and Science Team, (ii) the Mind and Consciousness Team, (iii) the Religions and Traditional Worldviews Team, and (iv) the Logic, Mathematics, and Artificial Intelligence Team. Through the collective efforts and diverse perspectives of our array of colleagues, these teams work closely to promote collaborative research on a community scale.
